Fundraiser – Truckies caring for Truckies

We would like to introduce Mal Parker. Mal works as a Road Train Operator for Rivet Mining Services at the Mt Dove mine site located in the Pilbara, Western Australia.  The border restrictions associated with COVID 19 have resulted in many employees making the decision to remain in WA until these restrictions ease which means that some interstate employees haven’t seen family and friends for over 10 weeks.  Mal  noticed his colleagues were feeling a bit down so decided to do something to help.

Mal displays some of the prizes that were generously donated by local Port Hedland businesses

Mal observed the amount of time spent on site, away from family and friends was starting to show so he came up with the idea of holding a raffle for the guys on site and asked local businesses in Port Hedland to assist by donating prizes. He set his phone alarm on his days off, wrote a list of the top 20 businesses in Port Hedland and started making calls.

The response by local business was overwhelmingly supportive. Mal managed to gather a grand total of 54 prizes and has raised $5,300 so far for Beyond Blue . The service provider of the camp also matched 50c in the dollar for sales of the three BBQ’s that were held for all on site.

General Manager of Rivet HR, Nita Lyster said “Rivet are very fortunate to have people like Mal working in the business. His compassion for his colleagues has gone a long way to emphasise the need for us all to look out for each other’s mental health & wellbeing during these extraordinary times”

Although all raffle tickets have now been sold you can still contribute to this worthy cause.  For more information about how you can donate to Beyond Blue please email:
